Warranty / Terms & Conditions
By placing an order and accepting our quotation you acknowledge and confirm that you accept and will comply with the full terms and conditions of Decor Blinds Australia. The key terms are summarised below.
Conditions of quotation
- All goods are manufactured to order and cannot be re-sold, as we do not carry stock items.
- Acceptance of our quotation occurs by payment of the initial payment or issue of a purchase order. Orders are not processed until confirmed receipt of that payment or purchase order.
- Quotations are valid for 30 days and are subject to check measure and price review by Head Office.
- The customer should check that the colour, finish, shutter layout and fit, blade size and cord control positioning set out on the quotation are correct. A sample must be supplied by the customer for non-standard paint colours before an order.
- Only goods itemised in the quotation are supplied. Additional products required later are treated as a new order and paid for separately on supply.
- It is the client's responsibility to provide adequate structure to secure all blinds, and to remove existing window coverings, tracks and blinds unless charged for in the quotation.
- We accept no responsibility for a client's windows, floors or building being out of square. Quotations do not cover scaffold or height access equipment.
- All goods remain the property of Decor Blinds Australia Pty Ltd until payment is made in full. The warranty does not come into effect until full payment has been made.
- Information in the quotation documents is confidential and must not be disclosed or released for any other use or purpose.
Placing an order & payments
- A 30% initial payment is required to place an order. No order can proceed until this payment is received.
- A further 60% payment is required at completion of manufacture, when our Customer Service department arranges your installation date. If goods cannot be fitted on completion and require storage, this 60% payment falls due.
- The final 10% payment is made at the time of installation.
- We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, EFTPOS, cheque or cash. Surcharges apply for credit card payments.
- Decor Blinds Australia Pty Ltd may, at its discretion, charge interest on overdue accounts at an annual rate of 15%, plus any expense incurred in collecting overdue monies.
Cancellations & changes
- Changes to, or cancellation of, orders must be made in writing to Decor Blinds Australia within 2 working days from placement of the order. Cancellation of orders and changes are handled within Australian Consumer and Competition Commission legislation.
- If a cancellation is requested before check measure, an administration fee of $70.00 is incurred; the balance of the initial payment is credited within 3 days of notification.
- Cancellation after check measure incurs a minimum cost of $100 plus any material outlays.
- We make all attempts to action changes or cancellations without charge; where costs have been incurred, charges up to the maximum value of the original order may apply.
Installation
- When your goods are ready, our Customer Service department arranges payment of the 60% instalment and confirms a convenient installation date. The final 10% is required upon completion of installation.
- The client is responsible for removal of all existing window coverings, tracks and blinds; if not removed on installation, extra charges are due and payable.
- The customer is not entitled to defer, offset or withhold payment in whole or part for any reason unless agreed to by Decor Blinds Australia Pty Ltd in writing.
Warranty
- Warranty claims are valid only when full payment has been made as per the invoice / quotation.
- A call-out fee applies after one (1) month.
- The 25 year limited warranty on shutter frames and panels is set out in full below.
25 Year Limited Thermalite Warranty
25yr
Shutter frames & panels
Thermalite shutter frames and panels are warranted against defects in material that might result in blistering, peeling, flaking and corroding for twenty-five (25) years from the date of installation, provided normal cleaning practices are followed periodically as described in the maintenance instructions.
5yr
Hardware & paint
All paint supplied with Thermalite shutters is guaranteed against fading and warranted to remain in good operational condition for five (5) years from installation; the painted finish will not crack, peel or yellow in this time. Thermalite shutters can be used in wet areas. Decor Blinds has a three (3) year warranty on colour fastness.
General conditions
To the extent permitted by law, this Warranty is the only warranty applicable to the shutters and it excludes all other express or implied warranties. No person is authorised by the Manufacturer to give any further representation or warranty, or to assume any further obligation with respect to the shutters. This Warranty is for the benefit of the original purchaser (the "Owner") but can be transferred with the written approval of the Manufacturer.
- Product use. The Warranty applies only to Thermalite shutters installed in Australia and New Zealand and used strictly for their intended purpose. The shutters are intended to provide light control only; varying levels of light penetration between the louvres may occur. They are neither intended nor guaranteed to provide complete block-out conditions when closed.
- Warranty limitations. The Manufacturer's liability is limited solely to repair or replacement, at its option. Under no circumstances will the Manufacturer be liable for incidental or consequential damages such as labour and transfer costs, inconvenience, damage or injury to persons or property, or any other expense.
- Replacement parts or repairs. The Manufacturer reserves the right to discontinue or change any shutter as currently manufactured. If an exact replacement part is not available, the Manufacturer reserves the right to substitute parts of equal quality at its sole option.
Exclusions from warranty coverage
Exposure to air pollutants and normal atmospheric conditions may cause Thermalite surfaces to gradually accumulate surface dirt or stains. These are normal occurrences and are not covered. Also excluded:
- Any defect, malfunction or failure to perform caused by unreasonable use, improper application, or failure to carry out reasonable or necessary maintenance.
- Shutters that have not been cleaned in accordance with the maintenance and cleaning instructions.
- Any damage caused by settlement or structural defects of the building in which they are installed.
- Any damage caused by wind, hail, lightning or other acts of God, intentional acts, accidents, negligence, or exposure to harmful chemicals or pollutants.
- Damage caused by improper handling or installation.
- Any shutter repaired or modified by any person other than a duly authorised representative of the Manufacturer.
- Shutters made without divider rails, or wider, higher or of greater area than the recommended sizes, are not warranted.
Procedure & conditions of warranty remedy
Any necessary repairs are carried out at the Manufacturer's factory. Shutters must be transported to the retailer from which they were purchased and then to the factory. Neither the Manufacturer nor the retailer is responsible for costs incurred in transporting the shutters, or any other costs related to their removal or reinstallation.
In the event of a warranty claim, the Owner must notify the retailer in writing within thirty (30) days after the defect first appeared. The notification must contain:
- Name and address of the Owner
- Date of installation
- A brief description of the defect
- Proof of purchase
- Proof of transfer
If the Owner considers the defect should be covered, they may, at their own expense, arrange delivery of the shutters to the retailer and in turn to the factory. Upon inspection, the Manufacturer determines whether the defect is covered and will repair or replace at its discretion. If the defect is not covered, the Manufacturer informs the retailer of costs and options; retailer authorisation is required before any repair, modification or replacement not covered by the Warranty. Any charges are billed by the Manufacturer to the retailer, who is responsible for collecting them from the Owner.
Maintenance & cleaning instructions
The materials require little maintenance. Surfaces collect a layer of surface dust over time; normal dusting with a damp cloth removes this. If more thorough cleaning is required:
- Wash with mild soap and water or a mild household dishwashing liquid, using a soft cloth — this is generally sufficient.
- Mild, water-based household cleaners can be used on dirt and stains that are more difficult to remove.
- External shutters should be hosed down regularly and washed with a mild soap solution to remove salt and air pollutants.
- Shutter hardware should be sprayed regularly with a silicon spray.
Caution: never use harsh abrasives, chlorine-based cleaners or cleaners containing organic solvents on Thermalite shutters, as they may affect the surface appearance and durability.
